Exciting News – Our new Pre-School is coming!
We are delighted to share our exciting plans to open a brand-new Pre-School at Collingham Lady Elizabeth Hastings Church of England Primary School in Summer 2027.
The new Pre-School will provide high-quality early years education for children aged 3 and 4, creating up to 32 places for families in Collingham and the surrounding areas.
Following the closure of the village’s remaining pre-school provision, we know how important it is for families to have access to excellent early education within their own community. Our new Pre-School will allow children to begin their journey with us from the age of three, becoming part of our school family from their very first steps into education.
A purpose-built space for our youngest children
Our former caretaker’s bungalow will be completely transformed and extended to create a modern, welcoming and purpose-designed early years environment.
The new provision will include:
- bright, high-quality indoor learning spaces;
- a dedicated and secure outdoor learning and play area;
- opportunities for free-flow indoor and outdoor learning;
- an all-weather outdoor canopy;
- accessible, step-free facilities throughout;
- a dedicated accessible toilet and care suite;
- spaces designed to support children with additional needs; and
- access to the facilities and expertise of the wider school.
Although the Pre-School will have its own dedicated building, entrance and outdoor space, it will be an integral part of Collingham Lady Elizabeth Hastings CE Primary School. Children will benefit from the expertise of our Early Years and SEND teams and opportunities to become familiar with the wider school environment.
Supporting children from the very beginning
We want our Pre-School to offer much more than childcare.
Children will experience a nurturing, stimulating and inclusive environment where they can play, explore, develop their independence, build friendships and develop a lifelong love of learning.
The Pre-School will be part of a successful and well-established school. At our most recent Ofsted inspection in April 2026, Collingham Lady Elizabeth Hastings CE Primary School was judged to meet the Strong Standard in all areas, including Early Years, Inclusion, Curriculum and Teaching, Achievement, Personal Development and Wellbeing, and Leadership and Governance.
Being part of the school will also provide a wonderful opportunity to support children’s transition into Reception. Children will already know the school, its routines and many of the adults around them, helping to make that next important step feel familiar and exciting.
Our Pre-School will share the values and ethos of our whole school: “We are family, all are welcome, you are loved.”
Designed with families in mind
We know that flexibility is incredibly important for modern family life.
The planned core Pre-School day will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm, with morning and afternoon provision available. Families will also be able to access wraparound childcare from 7:30am until 6:00pm, Monday to Friday during term time.
The Pre-School will offer funded early years places, with further information about sessions, funded hours, fees and admissions to be published in early 2027.
Investing in our community
This is a significant and exciting investment in early years education in Collingham.
The project has secured substantial external capital funding and will transform a school building that has been unused for around three years into a fantastic facility for young children and their families.
Most importantly, it will help ensure that families can continue to access high-quality pre-school education here in our village, while creating a stronger link between early years provision and primary education.
What happens next?
Our plans have now been submitted to Leeds City Council and we are working hard behind the scenes on the next stages of this exciting project, with the new Pre-School due to open in Summer 2027.
Over the coming months, we will use this page to share updates on the building and development, admissions, funded childcare arrangements, staffing and opportunities for families to come and see our new provision.
